Some tips when thinking about wedding cake…
- Once you find a cake maker that you like, find out if they’re available for your wedding date. Get them booked in early – great suppliers get booked up far in advance!
- Book in a tasting, or if you’re not local to the cake maker, see if you can get samples sent to you.
- Listen to your cake makers recommendations – they have made hundreds of cakes and know their stuff!
- The more detail you add, the more it will cost you. Handmade sugar flowers and decorations take hours and hours of time.
- Think about what your wedding cake will sit on. Does your venue have a cake stand or will you need to hire one?
- Does your venue have a cake knife? The last thing you want is to be cutting your cake with a butter knife!
- Think about size. You don’t need a ten tiered cake if you have 50 guests. Similarly, you need to make sure you allow enough to feed all of your guests, especially if it is being served for dessert.
- Check that your wedding cake maker has all the necessary hygiene certificates and insurance.
- Make sure the images you see on the cake makers social media/website were made by them and are not stock images.
- Make sure you get to enjoy your cake. If you think you’ll be too busy chatting, make sure your wedding planner/on the day coordinator or caterer wraps some up for you to take home or up to your room at the end of the night – a perfect midnight snack right there!
